Tutoring at William Perry Elementary School

In October of 2017, twelve volunteers from First Presbyterian Church joined people from other churches and organizations in Waynesboro to work with students in kindergarten through fifth grade on reading and math.  After a break for the holidays, during which coordinator Beth Crickenberger could tweak the program, we began tutoring again during February and March of 2018 before April’s state testing.  Some of the sixty-five people are working closely with teachers during the school day, and others work from 3 – 4 p.m.   Two elementary schools in Waynesboro have not achieved full accreditation, and one goal of this program is to help with test scores.  An additional objective is to develop relationships with children who may need love and positive attention from a role model in their lives.  The tutoring program will be evaluated after testing is completed this spring.
